x402 on the XRP Ledger: the payment count fell 98%, the money went up.
AI agents can pay x402 APIs on the XRP Ledger in RLUSD or XRP. Payments made through t54's facilitator carry its source tag, and t54's XRPL AI Hub counts them: 14,583,808 payments to 178 sellers by 25 October, worth $31,126 since July. We sell on the XRP Ledger ourselves, so we read the same payments on the ledger to see what that number means.
Fewer payments, more money
The hub publishes its count per three hours and the dollars settled per day. Three periods:
| Period | Payments a day | Dollars a day |
|---|---|---|
| 26–30 September | 605,486 | $648 |
| 7–13 October | 249,202 | $238 |
| 18–24 October | 5,474 | $1,003 |
Between early and late October the payment count fell 98% and the money rose fourfold. The turn came in the night of 14 to 15 October: 180,610 payments on the 14th, 43,276 on the 15th, 8,344 on the 16th, and from the 17th onwards about $1,000 settled every day.
One seller, now paid with Checks
The cause is one seller. Heurist Inference Router, an AI model router, has 10.4 million of the hub's 14.6 million payments. Until 14 October it was paid per call: in any two minutes about a hundred different wallets each sent it a payment of a tenth of a cent or so (0.0005 to 0.0015 RLUSD). The first Checks show up late on 14 October, and from the early hours of the 15th it was paid only that way: seven wallets write XRP Ledger Checks of about $0.40 to $0.70 each, and Heurist cashes them. From 18 to 24 October that was 13,544 cashed Checks, about 1,900 a day, for $6,673: $953 a day. A Check is the XRP Ledger's cheque: one ledger transaction pays for many calls. The hub labels the payers "Claw Credit" and the settlements "Batch".
Nothing is wrong with that. Settling in batches is cheaper for everyone, and the money is real. But a payment counter on the XRP Ledger now counts settlements, not calls, and the wallets on the ledger are no longer the agents but whoever writes the Checks. The drop from 249,000 to 5,500 payments a day is mostly one seller changing how it gets paid, not agents leaving.
Where the money goes
The five busiest sellers in the 24 hours before 25 October, 15:22 UTC, by the hub's count:
| Seller | Payments | Dollars |
|---|---|---|
| Heurist Inference Router | 1,741 | $857.99 |
| AskSurf | 4,219 | $25.31 |
| Heurist Mesh | 2,069 | $3.13 |
| Monid Tool Router | 691 | $0.70 |
| Fizzl (listed as "Ichimoku Cloud Signal") | 20 | $0.38 |
Of the $888 these five received, $858 (97%) went to Heurist Inference Router, from seven wallets. Over the whole week of 18 to 24 October it was $6,673 of the $7,021 the hub settled: 95%. The ranking by payments is a different list: AskSurf and Heurist Mesh had more payments than Heurist and almost none of the money.
Many payments, one fleet
On the ledger, AskSurf received 8,443 x402 payments from 18 to 24 October ($314.50) and Heurist Mesh 7,528 ($13.37). Each had 105 paying wallets, and they are the same 105 wallets. The payments are spread almost evenly over them: no wallet made more than 2% of either seller's payments (the busiest three made 125, 114 and 112 of AskSurf's 8,443, and 143, 143 and 140 of Heurist Mesh's 7,528). That is one uniform fleet of agents, not 105 independent buyers, let alone 210.
We see the same from the seller's side. Fizzl's 20 payments in that last day came from two wallets. One made 19 purchases from Fizzl Buy, 18 of them within 15 minutes, each looking like a new visitor, and pays many other hub sellers in the same way. The other is a trust-scoring vendor that pays one x402 Doctor check a day on its own endpoint. Both are welcome, and both are testing the ecosystem rather than buying for a task.
What this means
- For anyone reading x402 numbers: on the XRP Ledger a "payment" can be one call or a Check that covers many. The count fell 98% while the money rose. Neither number alone says how much agents use x402; you need both, per seller.
- For agents and the people who set them up: a seller's payment count is not a reputation. Ask how many different wallets paid it, and whether they also pay everyone else.
- For sellers: the XRP Ledger has real x402 money, about $1,000 a day, but nearly all of it goes to one seller paid by a few wallets. If your payments come from wallets that pay every seller, you have been found, not chosen.
- For catalogs and hubs: counting calls and settlements separately, and showing unique payers next to payments, would make these numbers comparable over time and between sellers.
x402 Doctor now counts these payments itself. Since 25 October it reads, every hour, the x402 payments to the payout addresses of all the hub's sellers and of every XRP Ledger endpoint in its Trust Index, 182 addresses. For a seller paid on the XRP Ledger, its paid pre-payment check says how many different wallets paid it in the last 7 days, and how many of those pay ten or more sellers, as fleets and checkers do. The counts are public: payments-xrpl.json on the payments-data branch.
How we measure
The hub numbers come from the XRPL AI Hub's public API on 25 October 2026 around 15:23 UTC: the all-time totals, the payment count per three hours over the last 30 days, the dollars settled per day since 13 July, and the top sellers over all time and over the last 24 hours. The dollar values are the hub's own (RLUSD at $1, XRP at the hub's rate).
The ledger numbers come from reading each seller's transactions (account_tx on public XRP Ledger servers) for 18–24 October UTC. A payment counts when it arrives at the seller's address, succeeded, and carries t54's source tag 804681468: a Payment, or a CheckCash for a Check with that tag. Payers are counted by address. The same reader runs every hour in x402 Doctor for all hub sellers.
What it can't see: who is behind a wallet, how many calls a Check paid for, payments that don't use t54's facilitator, and whether a payment bought anything.
Questions
How many x402 payments are there on the XRP Ledger?
The XRPL AI Hub (xrpl-ai.org, run by t54 Labs) counted 14,583,808 x402 payments through the t54 facilitator by 25 October 2026, worth $31,126 since 13 July. Most of that count is history: 605,000 payments a day in late September, about 249,000 a day in early October, and about 5,500 a day from 18 to 24 October. Over the same weeks the money settled rose from about $240 to about $1,000 a day.
Why did the number of x402 payments on the XRP Ledger fall?
The biggest seller, Heurist Inference Router, used to be paid per call, about a tenth of a cent each. It now settles with XRP Ledger Checks: the payer writes a Check and the seller cashes it, one ledger transaction for many calls. A payment counter then counts settlements, not calls. Heurist accounts for 10.4 million of the hub's 14.6 million payments.
Who pays for x402 on the XRP Ledger?
Very few wallets. In the last 24 hours before 25 October 15:22 UTC, $858 of the $888 that the five busiest XRPL x402 sellers received went to Heurist Inference Router, cashed from Checks written by seven wallets the hub labels Claw Credit. AskSurf's and Heurist Mesh's payments came from the same 105 wallets in near-equal shares: one fleet, not 105 buyers.
Does x402 Doctor count XRP Ledger payments?
Yes. Since 25 October 2026 it reads, every hour, the x402 payments (Payments and cashed Checks with the t54 source tag) to the payout addresses of every XRPL AI Hub merchant and of every XRPL endpoint in its Trust Index, and publishes the counts in payments-xrpl.json on the payments-data branch of github.com/Fizzl13/x402-doctor. Its paid pre-payment check shows how many wallets paid a seller's XRPL address in the last 7 days.
